005: Construction Paper Sans, musician lettering, and manicules
Plus jazz lettering and beautiful opening titles.
Welcome to Asset Library, my design-ish newsletter where I share inspiring and interesting design, tools, articles, etc. on the first Monday of the month.

👀 Construction Paper Sans
I have been seeing this a lot lately, my own work included. Maybe it’s still too few examples to categorize into a trend and maybe it’s frequency illusion since I also just created something like it. I am wondering what the roots of this style are. I’ll need to do some reading and get back to you.
Has anyone else seen this? For now I’m calling it Construction Paper Sans. Bonus points if you can think of a less clunky name!!
Characterized by:🗞️ In defense of design tropes by Brian Collins
Obliterated me and all designers with this first sentence.Every few months, a good number of well-educated adults in the design world will spend a part of their day breathlessly finger-stabbing their screens to point out that they have just seen a thing, and that it is not the first time they have seen that thing.
🖍️IBM’s Security Brand Identity
Super sleek and smart corporate identity. Corporate identities don’t have to be boring! An ingenious use of gradients in data viz. I do wonder if it’s ever been practically applied or if this was just for the brand book.MAN·I·CULE (‘manə,kyo͞ol), n. a symbol in the shape of a pointing hand used to draw attention to something.
Origin: from Latin manicula, diminutive of manus or ‘little hand’.Look at all these little hands! This whole site is really great inspo put together by an ephemera collector. You should take a look.
A font comprised entirely of colored circles. Why not?
💽 Jazz and Hair Band Lettering
Just so fun to look at
🎥 The Palm Royale opening titles
I have been really enjoying this show—great cast, really funny, engrossing mystery. I love the opening title sequence as a fun nod to spy/thriller/mystery movies from the 60s.🌐 Web Design Inspiration
